Kirchhoff's Current Law:

Design Challenge, Problem 1

This exercise uses concepts introduced in our experiment relative to Kirchhoff's current law. A link to this experiment is provided at the right.

Step 1:

The circuit we will be using in this exercise is shown below. The node that we will be using has been identified on the circuit schematic.

Step 2:

  1. Identify currents in all resistors in the circuit. Assign current directions so that they agree with the passive sign convention.
  2. Write KCL at node A. Use the current directions you identified.

Step 3:

  1. Implement the circuit on your breadboard.
  2. Measure the currents at node A. Make your measurements according to the current directions you identified in Step 2 above. Substitute your measured currents into the KCL equation you created in Step 2. Is KCL satisfied at node A?.
